GENTRY — High school students in Gentry visited the Be Pro Be Proud portable simulator trailer on the high school campus Friday to explore their skills and interests in various skilled-labor occupations.
Using simulators, students could experience what it is like to drive a tractor-trailer rig, operate heavy construction equipment, weld, operate tools and machines via remote control, and much more.
The trailer, packed with simulators and equipment, was designed to let students explore their passions and guide them in choosing a career path that is right for them.
“Be Pro Be Proud is leading the movement to bring a new generation of pride, progress, and professionals to America’s skilled workforce,” the organization’s website.
“The best time to get started on your better future is right now,” the website states. “There are thousands of opportunities right here in Arkansas for skilled professionals. And this is where you’ll find them. If you’ve got the talent and the ambition, Arkansas’s top employers are looking for you. And, in many cases, you can even learn while you earn. Connecting with your profitable career has never been easier.”
Karen Kloss and Brian Zardo brought the mobile workshop tour to Gentry High School and introduced students interested in pursuing a technical trade after high school to a variety of good-paying career options.
The Be Pro Be Proud workshops started in Arkansas and have now expanded to eight states. More information on the workshops, as well as job opportunities and training, is available at https://beprobeproud.org/.
The Arkansas Army National Guard was also present at the workshop, explaining to students the benefits of enlisting and receiving on-the-job training in numerous professions, as well as receiving educational benefits.
